Exercises That Reduce Cellulite

Cellulite, the bane of swimming season for women everywhere, is difficult to get rid of. Many creams, foods, medicines and other consumer products promise quick results, but the best way to smooth and even rid yourself of cellulite is through exercise. Many exercises are available to you, but trouble spots are best targeted with three exercise stances. With hard work and exercises while lying on your side, while on your elbows and knees, and while standing up, you will be smoother than you ever thought possible.

Lying on your side

    Exercise 1: Starting with hips and knees straight, raise both knees until your hips are bent 90 degrees. Restraighten your top leg, raise it three feet into the air in a smooth, controlled motion, and then back down. Complete the rep by bringing it back in line with your bottom leg. Do sets of 6 to 12 reps.

    Exercise 2: With legs straightened, move your top leg out in front of you, so your hip is at a 45-degree angle. The lower leg should still be straight. Lift the lower leg between eight and 12 inches off the ground, then back down to complete the rep. Do sets of 6 to 12 reps.

    Be sure to do these exercises while on both sides.

On elbows and knees

    Exercise 1: Extend either leg straight back until straight, keeping your toe on the ground. Lift that leg into the air as high as you can without straining, keeping it straight, and then back down to the ground in a smooth, controlled motion. Drag it back in to complete the rep. Do 6 to 12 reps with each leg, completing all reps with one leg before moving to the other.

Standing up

    Exercise 1: Starting with feet together, step forward with your left leg into a lunge position and touch the ground with your right hand.     Exercise 2: Find a set of stairs, preferably between eight and 12 inches in height. Place one foot on the front step. Lift your body up into the air with this foot. Return to the starting position, with your foot up on a step, to complete the rep.
