How to Prepare for a Thermage Treatment

Thermage is an excellent alternative to forehead lifts, browlifts, facelifts and laser resurfacing. If you're considering a thermage treatment, read the information below to ensure you'll know what to expect and be adequately prepared.

Instructions

    1

Understand the thermage process. Thermage treatment involves a device that tightens skin around the eyes and forehead without making any incisions or utilizing any lasers. The device emits pulses that heat the skin, thereby contracting it and reducing looseness.

    2

Visit a doctor who performs thermage treatments in order to learn more about the process. The doctor should thoroughly explain all aspects of the procedure, as well as perform an evaluation before the treatment.

    3

Talk to your doctor about the skin care products you currently use. Ask if it's acceptable to use these products before and after the thermage treatment.

    4

Know what to expect once treatment begins. To reduce any feelings of discomfort, the doctor may use an anesthetic lotion or the face or prescribe oral medication. Once the doctor begins using the thermage device, you'll feel varying cold and warm sensations. You may experience some tenderness, redness or swelling in the treatment area for a couple of days.

    5

Schedule enough time for the procedure. The length of the thermage treatment will vary, depending upon the size of the area to be treated. For some patients the process only lasts a few minutes, while others may spend up to an hour with the doctor.

    6

Keep in mind that results may appear gradually. Although many patients notice improvement immediately after a thermage treatment, the skin's appearance continues to improve in the weeks and months that follow. Thermage treatments have been known to work best on patients with thinner skin. Thus, older patients may see better results.
