Toned Calf & Thighs Exercises at Home for Women

Toned calf and thigh muscles prevent the buildup of cellulite in the thighs and legs. Women who work on their calves and thighs end up with toned legs that are attractive and strong. Going to the gym is not always convenient, especially for the busy woman with a job or children, but women can do exercises at home to tone calves and thighs with only a few minutes a day.

Squats

    Squats are great leg exercises that tone the thighs and calves at the same time. Stand with feet about shoulder-width apart and lower weight until reaching a sitting position. Women should always keep the back straight while moving to prevent injuries. Rise back to a standing position slowly. For a lower impact workout or for beginners, place a ball behind the back at a wall and gradually lower along the wall to keep the back straight and supported.

Skipping

    According to the Real Women's Fitness website, skipping is great for toning calves. Skipping is done up on the toes, so it tones the calves with minimal effort. Skipping will tone calf muscles while also lowering body fat content so that the muscles are more noticeable in a shorter amount of time.

Lunges

    Lunges are an exercise that women can do in a minimal amount of space to tone both thighs and calves. Take one step forward and lower the body with the knee at a 90-degree angle to the heel, pressing the heel down while keeping the back leg straight. Rise back up and repeat with the opposite leg forward. In a variation that works the inner thighs, step out to the side instead of the front and lunge sideways.

Heel Raises

    Heel raises work on toning calf muscles. Like the name implies, the heels are raised up to stand on tip-toes. Stand with feet approximately shoulder-width apart and then rise up to the toes. Hold the position for a count of 30 to 40 seconds and then slowly lower back down to a regular standing position.
