Exercises That Target Glute Cellulite

Having cellulite is not fun. Very few people find the "cottage cheese" look flattering. Medical News Today defines cellulite as fatty deposits that exist directly under the skin and that appear most often in the abdomen, legs and butt area. It can be caused by hormones, genetics, diet, lifestyle and even some types of clothing. Fortunately, you can reduce the appearance of cellulite with proper diet and exercise.

Squats

    The dreaded squats really are one of the best exercises for targeting the glutes and making that cellulite disappear. A basic squat requires you to stand up straight and then bend down low as if you were about to sit in a chair. The Real Woman's Fitness website offers a variation that works your glutes more naturally called the jumping squat. To do this, crouch down near the ground on your feet with your fingers touching the ground in front of you and one foot a little in front of the other one. Spring up as high as you can from this position and come back down with the other foot in front and repeat.

Lunges

    Lunges are another oldie-but-dreaded exercise that really delivers. There are several ways of performing this exercise including taking a giant step forward so that you have to bend nearly to the ground to achieve the stance. The Building Bodies Commando Method offers up a reverse-lunge move in which you step backward as far as you can until your back knee almost touches the floor (keeping the lower part of your right leg perpendicular to the floor). Then pull yourself back up using the muscles in your right leg and repeat on the other side. To change this into a power move, as you bring yourself up, kick forward with the back leg.

    There are a number of other forms of floor work that will help you more fully target those areas that need tightening. To tighten the sides of your glutes, you can try a kneeling abduction exercise. Get on your hands and knees on the floor and raise your right leg to the side. You will feel a bit like you're doing a dog impression at a fire hydrant, but several repetitions of this exercise can be very effective. To target the back (where the glutes meet the thighs), start from this same position but push your leg straight back without touching the floor. Raise it as high as you can and then slowly lower it again.
