How to Get Rid of Gas Odor

People spend quite a bit of time in their cars. Think about all the places you drive - work, the grocery store, sporting events and restaurants. The more hectic your life gets, the more time you seem to spend in the car. Gas has a strong odor to alert people to possible dangerous situations. This strong smell can make the inside of a car unbearable, in the event of an accidental spill. In order to get rid of the odor, you will need to neutralize the gas.

Instructions

Find out where the odor in your car originates. Gas odors can be caused by spills, but may also be indicative of mechanical problems.

Wash the spill spot with carpet shampoo and clean water. Depending on the severity of the spill, this may be enough to get rid of the odor.

Pour baking soda over the spill and leave it in your car overnight. The next morning, scrub the gas spill thoroughly and vacuum up the baking soda.

Vent your car. Leave one of its doors open, for at least 24 hours. Be sure to do this in a safe environment like a locked garage.

Place coffee grounds over the spill and leave them there for a few days. Coffee will naturally absorb the odor and will not stain the carpet, as long as it stays dry.
