Cooling, refreshing and more readily absorbed than many other topical formulations, gels are often used to deliver active ingredients in anti-cellulite products and in products designed for use around the delicate eye area. With the right ingredients and know-how, topical gels are relatively easy to make at home.

2Gradually sprinkle the xanthan gum powder into the water; whisking vigorously, using a fork or an egg whisk.
3Blend the mixture using a hand-held or stationary blender to remove any lumps. Skip this step, if your mixture is already smooth.
4Add your active ingredient to the mixture. For example, adding 10ml of aloe vera concentrate could be added to make a cooling eye gel.
