How to Reduce Big Thighs

Big thighs are often a reason to avoid wearing short skirts and shorts. Even though people walk a lot on a daily basis, walking alone is not going to reduce big thighs. According to the Truestar Health website, reducing one area of the body, also known as spot-reduction, is impossible. The only way you will reduce your large thighs is by losing fat all over your body. You can do this by adjusting your diet and incorporating an exercise regimen.

    Eat up to six small, healthy meals daily. Eating every three hours will keep your metabolism up and burn fat from all over the body, including the legs. You will be less likely to give into cravings and won't feel deprived. Make healthy choices; choose complex carbohydrate such as whole-grain and fiber-rich products over simple carbohydrates such as white flour and potatoes. Get lean protein from products like chicken, fish, egg whites and turkey, and choose products with unsaturated, healthy fats like olive oil and raw nuts.

    Incorporate cardiovascular training into your lifestyle. Running, swimming and biking all target the legs. Cardiovascular exercise keeps the metabolism up. It contributes to helping you burn more calories than you consume, increases muscle tone and eventually leads to slimmer thighs.

    Add weight training to your exercise regimen. Working out with weights builds muscle mass. Muscle mass takes up less space than fat, making your legs appear smaller. It also burns calories even when you are at rest. Train the entire body, not just the legs. In order to reduce fat in the thighs, you will have to reduce fat all over the body.

    Focus on thigh exercises to tone and lean out the leg muscles. To prevent ending up with flabby, un-toned legs, do exercises that target the hamstrings, quads and inner and outer thighs.
