Many women older than 20 will say that cellulite is what they hate most about their body. It is one of the main reasons so many fear swimsuit season. For years, women have been told there is nothing that can be done; cellulite is a part of life. Recently, though, cosmetic surgery, spa procedures and creams that promise to get rid of cellulite have grown in popularity, but the effects are expensive and temporary at best. However, proponents of the raw foods diet have come forward with claims that following this diet will eliminate cellulite while promoting weight loss and an all-around increase in health.

Raw Foods Diet

    The raw foods diet is composed of eating at least 50 percent of your total foods in their natural, uncooked state. The reason for this is the adherents' claim that cooking foods at higher than 130 degrees destroys their vitamins and photonutrients, removing the food value and rendering it empty calories. Eating foods raw is supposed to maximize your intake of these vitamins and nutrients, boost the flavor of foods and aid in digestion. Grains should be in as natural a form as possible and protein should come from plant sources, such as soy, nuts, seeds, algae, higher-protein greens and sprouts.

Health Benefits

    The result of following the raw foods diet is renewed energy and well-being, clear skin and shiny hair, and a variety of other health benefits. According to a study by vegan and live food nutrition expert Lenka Kajic, published in the August 2006 issue of "The Iowa Source": "People who followed an 80 to 90 percent raw foods diet for two years reported marked improvements in immunity, digestion, allergies, weight moderation, chronic illness, and mental and emotional well-being." Zajic continues: "There seems to be no question that, at least initially, eating a raw foods diet can reduce or cure many health complaints."

Cellulite Elimination

    There are experts who claim the raw foods diet can make a difference, like Sally Beare, a lecturer at the U.K. "...At first, this system is a lot regarding getting the proper information on the difficulty of cellulite, or in my scenario, orange skin behind. Blogs and Testimonials

    The Internet is full of blogs and testimonial praising the raw foods diet and the difference it has made in people's lives and on their cellulite. In the blog section of Raw Food Talk, ilovecacao wrote in November of 2006, "I am so excited, the cellulite on the back of my thighs is going away!" This was confirmed by fellow bloggers on the site. Melissa from Ontario stated, "The raw diet gets top marks for cellulite reduction. I've lost weight before but still looked lumpy. This way of losing weight is leaving me smoother and smoother."

Conclusion

    Even without the benefit of cellulite reduction, the other health benefits of a raw food diet are too numerous to ignore. Weight loss, better digestive health, more restful sleep and an overall feeling of lightness and well-being have been widely reported by those on the diet. While eating mostly uncooked food might not be for everyone, the benefits make it worth a try for some people.
