Lemon Juice Cures

Lemon juice has refreshing properties in food and drink. Among the many benefits are lemon juice's cleansing properties externally and internally.

Primarily comprised of water, lemon juice contains citric acid, which makes it tart. Its nutritional value includes vitamin C, the main nutrient in lemon juice, and lesser amounts of thiamin, magnesium, folate, and vitamin B6. Lemon juice is low in fat and calories (see additional resources).

According to Nature Direct 2U, lemons have been found to "promote leukocyte formation, dissolve cellulite, increase lymphatic function, and promote a sense of well being" (see References 1). Lemon juice is beneficial for the skin.
The antiseptic and antibacterial properties in lemon oil and juice makes it a beneficial treatment for insect bites. Lemon juice stimulates the digestive tract (see References 1).

Holistic Online recommends a simple concoction for very oily skin. Add the juice of a fresh, organic lemon to iced, distilled water. Use as a splash, massaging your face for five minutes. Rinse with fresh water. Folk wisdom recommends rubbing fresh lemon juice on "age spots" to diminish them, but this wisdom is unsubstantiated (see References 2).

Use lemon juice as a cleansing enema. According to Prescription for Nutritional Healing, a lemon- juice enema cleanses the colon of toxins. The recipe balances the colon's pH and can ease colon ailments including constipation (see References 3). Squeeze the juice from three fresh, organic lemons. Add to two quarts of lukewarm, steam-distilled water. The temperature is important. Place all of the lemon mixture in an enema bag. Lubricate the tip of the bag with vitamin E to aid insertion and to heal the entrance and the colon. With your head down and bottom up, insert all of the lemon mixture. Roll onto your back and then on your left side. Massage your colon as you move. Begin with your right side and slowly move toward the base of your rib cage. Massaging loosens fecal matter. Continue across your abdomen and down your left side. Hold the liquid for three to four minutes and expel. If holding so much liquid is painful, begin with less juice, stay in position and breathe deeply a few times. Resume. Phyllis Balch recommends if using the lemon-juice enema for constipation, use once a week in alternation with a coffee enema. When your stool is no longer foul-smelling, your colon will be flushed and clean. For colitis, use the lemon-juice enema once a week. Balch claims the lemon- juice enema quickly relieves pain caused by colitis (see References 3).
