After delivering a baby, most women find that their stomach still has some shrinking to do. The uterus will take approximately a month to return to its normal size, and the rest of the changes require dedication and hard work. It could take up to a few months to return to a pre-pregnancy weight and shape. Since liposuction is an expensive and potentially dangerous procedure, many women prefer free and safe methods for getting rid of a post-pregnancy belly.

    Eat a balanced diet. Women need about 1,800 calories a day and should consume a minimum of 1,200 a day. If you are nursing, you should not cut back on any calories. If you are not nursing, you can cut about 500 calories from your daily diet. Eat a lot of fruits, vegetables and protein.

    Drink eight glasses of water a day at minimum. Keeping your body hydrated is an effective way of losing weight. You will feel more full and your digestive system will operate more efficiently.

    Exercise regularly. Any type of activity is beneficial, but exercises aimed at toning the abdomen, like crunches, will help the most. Lay on your back with your feet flat on the floor and your knees bent. Place your hands behind your head and use your abdomen muscles to lift your head and chest off the floor. Return to the starting position and repeat about 30 times.

    Join a gym or fitness class to help with exercise motivation. Many gyms offer yoga or exercise classes specifically for postpartum moms.
