How to Improve Your Butt

An "improved" butt can mean different things for different people. For some, its a higher, tighter butt; some want to tone their butt, while others want to make it bigger. Some people want to lose weight in their butts, while some just want to get rid of cellulite. For all of these improvements, however, it is important to pursue a healthy combination of diet and exercise, while varying that regimen to meet your specific improvement goals.

    Adjust your diet. The foundation of any physical improvement is giving your body the nutrition it needs to properly flush fat and build muscle. A diet that is high in whole grains and low in fat will give you energy for exercising and help cut down on unsightly jiggling. Drinking lots of water will also help your body stay hydrated during exercise sessions.

    Choose the right exercise for your goals. Squats and lunges are both popular, tried-and-true means of toning butts. Running on an incline (or on a treadmill with a ramp) as well as climbing a StairMaster are other intensive ways of boosting your butt, as are elliptical machines and recumbent bicycles. For toning, perform butt exercises without weights; to increase butt size, try adding ankle weights when doing butt exercises like rear lifts.

    Consider options to reduce cellulite. Many cellulite creams and gels are available that may be minimally effective at smoothing your skin in troublesome problem areas. Spa options include massage therapy and paraffin wax regimens. Surgical options, such as liposuction, are also available. Talk to your doctor before embarking on intensive or invasive cellulite reduction treatments.

    Dress to improve your butt. Many undergarments are designed to shrink or lift the butt, improving its appearance. For a larger or perkier butt you could also consider butt pads, which fit in your undergarments or pants and make your butt appear bigger. Consider getting clothes, especially pants, tailored to improve the appearance of your butt, as well.
