DIY Seaweed Wrap

Body wraps can be enjoyed for their purported health and beauty benefits, or simply as a pampering treat. Wraps harness various -- usually natural -- ingredients to target problems; such as poor circulation, muscle and joint pain, and to draw out impurities from the skin. While there is no scientific evidence to support claims that wraps detoxify the body, melt cellulite or burn fat, there may be a temporary tightening and slimming effect -- due to the fluid lost through sweat during a treatment. However, there is no disputing that a moisturizing seaweed wrap will leave your skin feeling nourished, supple and smooth.

Instructions

In a plastic tub or bucket, mix the seaweed powder with a small amount of warm water using a paint stirrer or a large spoon.

Pour the almond or olive oil into a mixing bowl, and mix in the lavender and rosemary essential oils.

Pour this mixture into the seaweed paste and stir it well.

Add a little more water, if the paste is too thick. If it is too runny, add more seaweed powder until you have a good consistency to work with.

Warm a room in your house for at least fifteen minutes, before starting to apply the wrap. Cover a comfortable bed, camping mattress or massage table with a plastic sheet or several garbage bags.

Heat the towels by placing them on a radiator. Prepare the hot water bottles.

Check that you have everything you need on hand, including cling film, towels, hot water bottles, seaweed paste and water to sip during the treatment.

Using your hands, apply the seaweed mix to the whole body or the smaller areas you wish to treat. Start with your feet and work upwards.

Cover yourself with plastic wrap, cling film or a foil thermal blanket.

Cover your whole body with one or more warmed towels.

Place hot water bottles on top of the towels directly above the area being treated.

Lie down on your prepared bed for a minimum of twenty minutes -- up to one hour. Sip water regularly.

After twenty minutes to an hour, remove the hot water bottles, towels and cling film.

Rinse off the seaweed mix in a warm shower.
