Do it Yourself Body Wraps

If you lack the time and resources to visit a spa do it yourself body wraps are an excellent alternative. A body wrap is a way to cleanse the body of toxins and improve the overall health of their skin. With just a little time and patience, you will be able to relax and pamper yourself with a DIY body wrap.

If you're new to do-it-yourself body wraps you should use pre-made mixes. You will need a salt scrub and a thick body moisturizer. These can be purchased at a beauty store or your local drugstore. For the salt scrub, look for mixes that include sea salt and essential oils; the sea salt will provide excellent exfoliation, while the essential oils will help with relaxation. For the body moisturizer, look for a thick creamy moisturizer with shea butter. It is important that your moisturizer has a thick consistency, so it won't drip off your body during the wrap. Be sure to choose a scent that you find calming.

Next, gather supplies for the wrap itself. Spas use professional fabric or plastic sheets that ensure a tight wrap. However, at home, you'll have to improvise. The key is to use materials that will keep you very warm inside of the wrap. If you can find two thin sheets of plastic, use those. If not, you can use towels or a clean bed sheet. For the purpose of this article, I'm going to assume you have two sheets of plastic. You will also need a thick blanket -- a wool blanket or space blanket would work best. Also have a few hand towels available too, in case you need to clean your hands during the process.

Doing a body wrap at home can be messy, so be careful where you choose to position yourself. If you choose to lay on a bed or on the floor, lay down a protective sheet of plastic. If you choose to lay in the bathtub, put plastic down on the floor next to the tub. Not only will this protect your environment, but also ensure that cleaning up is easier.

First, lay your thick blanket down, then position your first sheet of plastic on top of that. Position yourself on top of this plastic sheet -- when you lay down and wrap yourself up, your head should remain uncovered. Once you are positioned, begin to massage your entire body with the salt scrub. Use firm pressure and rub in small, circular motions. Begin with your legs, and work your way slowly up your body. Use a long-handled loofah or bath sponge to massage the salt scrub into your back the best you can. Do not use the scrub on your neck or face. Once you have finished massaging the salt scrub into your body, wrap yourself up tightly in the plastic and then wrap yourself again in the heavy blanket. Again, make sure your head is completely uncovered. Rest for 25 minutes.

After 25 minutes, unwrap and rinse the salt scrub off in the shower. Use warm water, but do not use any soap -- ideally, you will still have a thin layer of moisturizing oil on your skin. Lay your thick blanket out again, and position your second (clean) plastic sheet on top of the blanket. Position yourself on top of this sheet. Starting with your legs, massage the body moisturizer into your skin in the same manner as before. When you have reached your neck, wrap yourself once more in the plastic sheet and the blanket. Relax for 25 minutes, then rinse yourself off in the shower with warm water.

Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep yourself hydrated and further eliminate the toxins from your body.
