Electronic Cellulite Treatments

A combination of genes and diet, cellulite is the term for pockets of fat that push through the connective tissue beneath a person's skin. The end result is a dimpled skin surface. Derma Network, an online resource for dermatological and cosmetic surgery topics, states that 90 percent of men and women have cellulite. There are several electronic treatments available that can reduce the appearance of cellulite. Most of these treatments are services that you can obtain at medical spas or from a cosmetic surgeon.

Velashape

Velashape is a treatment that claims to blast cellulite from problem areas such as the thighs, buttocks, and stomach. Velashape uses infrared light therapy, radio frequency, vacuum suction, and mechanical massage techniques to break up cellulite and smooth the skin surface. Velashape claims to shrink the size of fat cells and the chambers beneath the surface of the skin while increasing lymphatic drainage (which reduces bloating). The treatment is not surgically invasive and has little-to-no down time. Each Velashape session costs between $350 to $500 (price varies by location), and a series of treatments are recommended to achieve full benefits. Your physician or esthetician at your medical spa can give you an estimate of how many sessions you'll need to get your desired results. Plastic Surgery Portal quotes that the average cost of Velashape is $1,500 per patient.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a cosmetic procedure in which a series of injections are administered to a cellulite-bearing area of the body. After having a discussion with your cosmetic surgeon of your health history and expected results, mesotherapy injections are tailored to each patient, and contain a variety of ingredients. The most common ingredients in mesotherapy injections are artichoke extract; biotin (a protein naturally found in the body); caffeine; collagenase (enzymes); glycolic acid (alpha-hydroxy acid); hyaluronic acid (injectable filler); L-carnatine (a compound composed of amino acids lysine and methionine); lidocaine (anesthetic); retinoic acid (oxidized vitamin A); and multivitamins.

During a mesotherapy session, a syringe is injected into the subcutaneous fat that lies right below the skin surface, where it claims to break up pockets of cellulite and attack fat cells. Since it is delivered via injection, the procedure is considered non-invasive cosmetic surgery (comparable to Botox for anti-aging purposes). Mesotherapy is designed to focus on a specific problem area and does not claim to promote overall weight loss. Each session averages $250 to $350. "...First of all, this system is significantly related to having the right information on the issue of cellulite, or in my scenario, orange skin behind. When you sign up to the 'Kick-Butt Cellulite Redux' package you'll also receive 'The Cellulite Reduction Report.' Atlas, a credentialed personal trainer and physical fitness expert. This report has in-depth information on the latest cellulite reduction scams getting the rounds, and kept me from spending money on the hurtful Lypomassage treatment facilities that just sprouted up where I live...". Multiple sessions are often needed to achieve desired results; your physician can discuss how many sessions you'll need to get the results you want.

Thermage

Thermage claims to reduce the appearance of cellulite, and tone, tighten, and firm skin. Thermage is also performed on the face for anti-aging purposes. The procedure administers a capacitive radio frequency to the skin, which increases circulation to fatty tissue, tightens the collagen in the skin, and stimulates new collagen production. The end result is smoother skin that continues to even out over the course of six months. This is a non-invasive, one-time procedure that requires no down time. The average cost for a Thermage treatment is $2,000, although price varies by location.
