Best Ways to Hide Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are the result of rapid growth in both size and weight. The skin is pulled more quickly than your body can produce collagen, which is the major protein that connects skin tissues. Stretch marks first appear as red and purple marks, which fortunately, usually get smaller and less visible over time. In the meantime, there are a few measures you can take to hide your unwanted stretch marks.

Tanning in the sun will not hide your stretch marks as the marks do not tan as rapidly as the rest of your skin. Therefore, the stretch marks will be lighter than the rest of your skin, which means they are still visible. Instead of traditional tanning in the sun, use a tanning lotion that is available over the counter in both lotion and spray form. If applied evenly, it will "tan" all your skin, even the stretch marks. This will make the stretch marks blend in with the rest of your skin, making them harder to see.

You may want to choose a tanning lotion that is the same or a slightly darker tone than your current skin color. You can always reapply with a darker shade, if desired. To help you apply the lotion, have a friend or family member help you, especially if the stretch marks you are trying to hide are in a difficult area to reach. To apply a tanning lotion, put it in your hands first and then evenly apply it to your skin. Wash your hands immediately when finished. If you are using a spray tanning lotion, you will need to hold it about 10 inches away from your skin and evenly spray it on. Always follow manufacture directions for any tanning product used.

Buy make-up that is the same tone as your skin. Try applying it to your stretch marks so that the marks will blend in with the skin. Water-resistant make-up is best because it does not smear as regular make-up does. You never know; you might be exposed to water or sweat. Be careful though because even water-resistant make up can smear, so it is best if you only use it when you are not going to be in the water. For example, don't choose to cover your stretch marks with make-up if you are going swimming or it is raining out.

The best way to hide your stretch marks is to wear clothes that cover them up. Ladies' bathing suits (and even teens') are available with trendy short bottoms, rather than a traditional suit bottom. You can also wear a one piece or a tankini to cover up your stretch marks. Some bathing suits are even designed with little skirts on them, which many women now wear.
