How to Remove Wires in Photoshop

Occasionally, amazing photographs are ruined by certain things that may have crept into the frame unnoticed. Cars, fingers and wires are some of the biggest offenders. Fortunately, wires, whether from telephone poles or transmission lines, can be removed easily from an image using Photoshop and its Clone Stamp tool. The Clone Stamp tool replicates the elements of an image and allows you to brush it over the image at another point. This is useful for removing wires because they are thin and the masking usually blends seamlessly into the photograph.

Instructions

Open the image in Photoshop that you want to remove the wires from and create a new layer from the background by pressing "Shift+Ctrl+Q." Name this new layer Clones. This is the layer that we will apply the changes to and, at the end, merge with the original image,

Use the Zoom tool to focus the workspace on the wires that you want to remove.

Select the Clone Stamp tool by pressing "S" and adjust the width of the brush so that it is just slightly wider than the wire.

Change the brush tip to one of the soft brush tips so that the line will have blurred edges and will blend into the photo better.

Press the "Alt" key and select the area just next to the wire. This will clone elements from this area in relation to the brush and replicate them over the wire.

Click and drag the Clone Stamp tool across the wire. If you are working with a straight wire, you can hold the "Shift" key to lay a straight Clone Stamp. Apply the line in short patches so that if you make a mistake you can press "Ctrl+Z" to remove it.

Flatten the image by pressing "Alt+Shift+Ctrl+0" and save the file.
